Un Tour d’Europe du doc brought together the European documentary filmmakers’ associations in order to discuss European documentary filmmaking and its financing. The event were focused on screenings of European documentaries, round tables, and encounters with the filmmakers. Participating countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Turkey.

In an increasingly challenging artistic and economic context, Addoc’s documentary filmmakers had feeling the need to develop new synergies with their European counterparts. The idea is to defend original documentaries on a collective level where increasing numbers of decisions are being taken concerning cinematic and audiovisual issues.

Un tour d’Europe du doc proposed a panorama of European documentary cinema, and had sought to lay the foundations for a cohesive cooperation of European documentary makers. The first contacts we have established with European documentary-makers have highlighted the similarity of our issues. Even though documentary films have encountered a certain success with audiences, their financing is more and more precarious and their diversity under threat. There is an urgent need to inform and apply pressure on the authorities and European institutions so that documentaries do not disappear from our screens (TV, theatres and alternative screenings).

Today, Les lundis du doc européen, screenings on the initiative of Addoc’s documentary filmmakers follow the same aims et want to perpetuate the documentary filmmakers associations network. These nine seances intend to develop the ideas, to reinforce and widen the links established and to propose european creations and their issues to a wider public.
